Shelia Carter
“Don’t let your past define you, let it mold you.”
I believe counseling is a space where people can feel safe, supported, and understood. My goal is to walk beside my clients as they navigate life’s challenges, helping them uncover solutions and rediscover their strength. I listen with empathy and curiosity, helping clients understand their stories and the ways those experiences shape who they are today. Together, we find hope and work toward lasting change and personal growth.
I have always had a heart for helping others. Even though I knew early on that I was called to this field, it took me a while to make it my career. My journey took ten years, but knowing I could make a difference motivated me to finish. I achieved my goal at 53 by completing my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health, and I am so proud to have stepped out of my comfort zone, gone back to school, and followed my passion.
Professional Background
I am a Master’s level Clinical Mental Health Therapist with several years of experience working with individuals who have experienced trauma, anxiety, and depression. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and use this approach to help clients process and heal from difficult experiences.
I work from a person-centered approach and believe every client’s story is unique. My goal is to provide a supportive and nonjudgmental space that allows clients to grow, heal, and build healthier patterns.
Education:
Bachelors in Psychology, Liberty University
Master’s in Clinical Mental Health, Walden University
About Me
When I am not at work, I volunteer at a local pregnancy resource center, where I have supported women for more than ten years. Outside of work, I enjoy putting together jigsaw puzzles, going to church, and spending time with my grandkids. I have lived in Tennessee for over 30 years and have a special love for Basset Hounds. My family and I currently have one who never fails to make me smile every time I come home.
